Upcoming Assignments

We won't have a class meeting on Wednesday 1/18, but you'll be working on Project 1 in the meantime. Your first task will be to do some preliminary research on your topic at the Mahn Center to get a sense of what kinds of materials are available and what you can add to the Wikipedia article you've chosen. (Be sure to check out the Wikipedia article you're editing to get a sense of what information already exists.)You can do some of this research online at the following pages:

Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis Dance Collection: http://www.library.ohiou.edu/archives/dance/index.html
The Manuscripts Collection (topics in Doug's area): http://www.library.ohiou.edu/archives/mss/
University Archives (topics in Bill's area): http://www.library.ohiou.edu/archives/ouarch/

But you'll need to make at least one visit to the Mahn center before writing your proposal.
The center's hours are listed below:

Monday - Friday: 9AM - 5 PM
Saturday: 12PM - 4PM

*Monday the 16th is an exception here due to the holiday. Hours are 12-4 on this day.

Don't hesitate on this. Begin as soon as possible. Once you've done some research, you'll be in a better position to complete the proposal assignment. This assignment has you writing a project proposal to your curator (Bill, Doug, Judith or Sara) by 9am Wednesday (1/11). See the assignment sheet for further details.

While we aren't meeting as a class on Wednesday (1/18), you will be required to meet with your assigned curator sometime during that class meeting. These meetings shouldn't exceed 15 minutes and will provide you with a chance to discuss your project one-on-one with the curator who's most familiar with your topic area: Bill Kimok, Doug McCabe, Judith Connick, or Sara Harrington. I'll e-mail a schedule for that meeting so you know your particular time.

A final assignment due before we meet again on Monday, January 23 will be reading "Navigating Genres" (http://writingspaces.org/essays/navigating-genres) which we'll be discussing in class. You'll also want to bring a draft of your article/edits to class on Monday. You can paste this into a word document or save it on your userspace, but you'll need some kind of a draft to work on in class that day.

Here's a summary of these tasks you can use as a checklist.

  • Preliminary research in the Mahn Center and Review of Wikipedia Article
  • Complete Proposal Assignment
  • Meet with Curator
  • Read "Navigating Genres"
  • Bring article/edits draft to class Monday on a flash drive and save it on your Wikipedia user space

Thanks for your hard work!
